Arunthathiyars are a subcategory of Hindus. They are traditionally associated with the job of leather related jobs. For example, when there is a leather vessel used to get water from the well, it is made by Arundhathiyars, if it gets punctured or some other repair is required, once again Arundhathiyars are called. Even though these are utility items, they ensure their artistic abilities are applied in it and it is done in the best looking, best performing way. Even today, hand made leather goods are having so much value when compared to machine made goods, which proves the high standards and quality of the job of Arunthathiyars.
