Lambadi community is a kind of the Banjara or the nomadic tribes. Basically they belong to Rajasthan but now they are found in the outskirts of Andhra Pradesh. Many centuries ago these wanderers moved towards the south of India and majorly found in states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. They used to survive on cattle and now they are depending on trade and agriculture. In the outskirts of Hyderabad, one can see women wearing bright clothes, ivory bangles and a lot of decoration made on their head. One can see the Lambadi women selling seasonal fruits like guava or custard apple. They are industrious and they keep themselves engaged in any of the job that gives them some kind of earning. Though they belong to Rajasthan and now settled themselves in Southern part of India. They are quite attached to their own culture. They are educating their children and many of the educated youth are found in good positions in different sectors. They prefer to marry inside their community. They prefer to marry brides or grooms from other Gotras. Brides and grooms belonging to same gotra cannot make a match. Lambadi Matrimony is quite unique to itself and the jaath of the bride and grooms are checked before the marriage takes place. The experts who check the Jaath of the couples are known as dhaadi bhaat. They are able to identify jaath and they can arrange proper marriages. Girls and boys belonging to same gotra are regarded as brothers and sisters and the marriage cannot take place. They are quite conscious about their gotra and jaath.
